A BRIEF GUIDE TO CANINE ANXIETY
Recent studies have suggested some dogs suffer from similar problems to their human companions. Everyone wants their furry family member to have a long fulfilling life. CBD Guru’s pet oils can assist in providing care and support for the best interests of your dog no matter what the breed or size. Some such things are obvious as age related arthritis or general mobility impairments. But others are less obvious which is the case with certain canine anxieties and hyperactivity. Dog anxiety affects all breeds of dogs and can lead to serious behavioral problems if left untreated. Luckily, there are steps owners can take to help their dogs live with canine anxiety. Dog anxiety can have several causes, according to the Merck Veterinary Manual. The most common are:
Fear-related anxiety can be caused by loud noises, strange people or animals, specific situations like the vet’s office or car rides, visual stimuli like hats or umbrellas, new or strange environments or surfaces like grass or wood floors. All of these factors can send your dog into a state of panic that can even lead to seizures.
The American Kennel Club estimates that 14% of all dogs suffer from separation anxiety. Dogs with separation anxiety are unable to find comfort when they are left alone or separated from their family members. This anxiety is exhibited by behaviors that include barking, destroying furniture/furnishings and urinating and defecating in the house. Some reasons for this may be due to the dog having suffered a history of abandonment, multiple owners, re-homing, or prior neglect is common; exacerbating the condition.
Even if your dog has always been a confident and happy dog when he/she reaches their senior years, it won’t be unusual for him/her to begin to show anxious behavior. Sometimes this is a result of the normal aging process, at other times it can be caused by physical or psychological problems. One such psychological problem is cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) which is similar to the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease in humans. CDS symptoms are exhibited in a decline of awareness, memory and perception which ultimately leads to anxiety in older dogs.
